South Congaree town council member Jean Wilson resigns

South Congaree, SC (Paul Kirby) – South Congaree Town Council Member Jean Wilson resigned from the council last Tuesday night at the council meeting. She has provided the mayor a letter of resignation which makes the move official. She was first elected in the spring of 2015.

Wilson was contacted by telephone regarding the resignation. She cited personal reasons for tendering the resignation and declined any further comment on the matter.

Dene Crepes, the director of elections for Lexington County, said that the town will not have to have a special election for the post. Crepes said that if the general election for the town is within 180 days of the resignation, the election to fill the term can be held during the next scheduled general election. In South Congaree’s case, their election will be held in early April of 2018. This would be within that 180-day limit as stipulated by state law.
