Acclaimed production starts legendary British actors Ian McKellen, Patrick Stewart
Irmo, SC (James Bowers) - Harbison Theatre will kick off its “National Theatre Live” series Tuesday with a screening of a live broadcast of the Harold Pinter-directed play No Man’s Land. The play will be performed at Wyndham’s Theatre in London and streamed to audiences worldwide as part of the National Theatre live project. The audience at Harbison Theatre will get a “bird’s eye view” of the stage during the play, which stars famed English actors Patrick Stewart (Star Trek, X-Men) and Ian McKellen (Lord of the Rings, Beauty and the Beast).
The play centers around two aging writers: Hirst (Stewart) and Spooner (McKellen), who meet in a bar and while becoming inebriated, tell stories of increasing extravagance and complexity. Themes of No Man’s Land include old age, memory, and companionship, and in the words of its press kit, they will “leave the audience in deep thought and conversation long afterwards."
“The play is one of those classics that theatre friends and aficionados will enjoy immensely," said Kristin Cobb, executive director of Harbison Theatre.
National Theatre Live launched in 2009 and since then has broadcast several theatrical productions from London playhouses to global audiences of over 5.5 million people. The screenings make use of multiple camera angles to give these viewers what the press kit calls “the best seat in the house."
Tickets for No Man’s Land are priced at $15 each and can be purchased at harbisontheatre.org or by calling 803-407-5011. Tickets will also be sold at the Harbison Theatre Box Office, Monday and Tuesday from 9 AM-4 PM. The box office also opens two hours prior to the 7:00 PM showtime. No Man’s Land is the first of four National Theatre Live productions that HT@MTC will screen. In 2018, the Theatre will screen NTL’s Peter Pan on January 20, Amadeus on January 30, and Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead on March 20; the latter stars Daniel Radcliffe (Harry Potter). Those interested in NTL can purchase a “pass” to all four screenings for $54, and save 10% on each ticket. Pass holders will also get the same seat to every show.
The Harbison Theatre is located on the Harbison campus of Midlands Techncial College, at 7300 College Street, Irmo.
