Pelion power changes quietly in front of a small crowd of supporters

November 10, 2017

Pelion, SC (Paul Kirby) – The Town of Pelion held its monthly council meeting Thursday night and the government of the town changed in a quiet, peaceful, and orderly fashion that the town has come to be known for. Two retiring members of the body were replaced and one currently serving member was re-seated after winning another term Tuesday.

Frank Shumpert, the area’s most well-known businessman, was sworn in as mayor. Shumpert and his family own the town’s only grocery store, the IGA, and several other businesses in and around the area. He is well known for his support of education and the community as a whole.

He had served previously on the town council years ago before resigning to successfully run for school board. This will be his first stint as mayor, but if he is as successful here as he and his family have been in business, Pelion is in good hands. Coincidentally, his oldest son Daniel is also on the council.

Starr Hartley Corley was again sworn in to serve on council. She is a dedicated public servant who is known for her willingness to listen and consider issues before making a decision. She has always worked well with the other council members and that probably won’t change. She was elected by the new mayor and council last night as the mayor pro-temp.

Larry Sossman was sworn in to fill an empty seat on the town’s council. He is an entrepreneur who has turned a love for photography into a job. He shoots videos from a drone as well as takes other photographs for fun and profit. He also does laser etching on all types of articles like mugs, wood items, and more. He enjoys spending time with his grandchildren when he’s not working.

All three seem to be great choices to lead the town. The Pelion town council normally meets on the second Thursday of every month.
