Dutch Fork linebacker nominated for Mr. Richland County High School Football Player of the Year
Irmo, SC - Dutch Fork High School senior linebacker Alex Smith is one of 17 athletes who has been nominated for the 2017 Mr. Richland County High School Football Player of the Year award.
This prestigious award will be presented annually to the top varsity high school senior football player in Richland County who demonstrates great character, sharp intellect, community involvement, as well as academic and athletic excellence. The selected winner of this significant award will receive a $2,000 scholarship for their hard work and dedication on and off the field.
“Alex is a wonderful young man and has meant so much to our football program,” said Dutch Fork head coach Tom Knotts. “We are thrilled that he is a nominee for this award. He is very deserving.”
A key leader for the Silver Foxes defense this season, Smith was named to the North-South All Star football game that will take place on December 9 in Myrtle Beach.
Five finalists will be selected by a panel of judges from local media outlets and head coaches of the 17 players. The winner will be announced at a banquet on December 7 at the Richland County Recreation Commission’s Adult Activity Center.
Smith and Dutch Fork host West Florence on Friday at 7:30 p.m. in the second round of the Class AAAAA state playoffs.
