County firefighters respond to fire near Fairview that burns grass, home, buildings, and vehicles

Fairview, SC – Lexington County firefighters spent most of Wednesday afternoon fighting a fire that destroyed a home, some out-buildings, and several old cars in the Fairview area of the county. The fire was reported on Jewel Boone Road off D.E. Clark Road around 3 p..m. Wednesday. It produced a large column of black smoke that could be seen for miles.

Firefighters arrived to find a fast-moving wildland fire that was burning several structures, some cars, brush, and other things that were on the property. A number of round bales of hay were destroyed as was some farm equipment also.

A number of water tankers responded to the scene with the fire engines as did several specially equipped brush units. The firefighters were on the scene well after dark continuing to put out hot spots and wetting down the last remaining fires.

The county has not released the cause of the fire.
