Cayce Public Safety searching for a pickup truck that struck a building and transformer and then fle
Cayce, SC (Paul Kirby) Cayce Public Safety Officers are searching in the area of the Edenwood subdivision for an older model pickup that struck an electrical transformer and a building before speeding off into the darkness. This all happened after 9:30 p.m. Friday night.
The truck caught the eye of an officer on patrol at North Eden and Charleston Highway. Before the officer could get safely turned around and stop the truck, it hit the transformer and building and then fled the scene. The department has not yet said what made the officer suspicious of the vehicle.
Officers described the truck as an older model white Chevrolet step-side. This is the type of truck that has the fenders on the outside of the truck’s bed rather than on the inside. It was believed to have some damage to its body before the collision in Cayce, and now has substantial damage as a result of the wreck. They said that it may be occupied by two people who were possibly a white male and a white female.
Other officers quickly flooded the area in and around Edenwood from across the city. As of 11 p.m., they still had not located the truck or taken anyone into custody. Other nearby jurisdictions were advised to be on the lookout for the truck too.
Crews from SCE&G were dispatched to the scene because the transformer was a part of their distribution system. Officers said that it was leaking fluids when their dispatch center notified the utility company of its damage.
Anyone who has information on the whereabouts of this truck is asked to notify the Cayce Department of Public Safety at (803) 794-0456.
