Dump truck crash snarls traffic in heart of Lexington Monday

Lexington, SC (Paul Kirby) A dump truck collided with a car Monday in the middle of the intersection of West Main Street and Columbia Avenue in Lexington, snarling traffic for some time as town police officers sorted out the mess. This is one of the busiest intersections in the town and has a great deal of traffic at any time of the day.

For some time, the intersection was down to one lane of traffic in all directions, forcing cars to squeeze into a line rather than maneuver through the area side-by-side as is normal. The cars backed up for some distance in all directions as officers did their best to keep things moving while EMS and fire crews treated the injured.

Once the firefighters and EMTs cleared the scene, officers were able to quickly get the large truck moved out of the road, immediately increasing the traffic flow. Eventually, all lanes were re-opened, and the traffic returned to normal.

Lexington PD has not said who was at fault in the accident.
