Cayce residents enjoy festive songs at “Caroling Along the Riverwalk”

December 3, 2017

Cayce Riverwalk Park event featured music, fun for the whole family

Cayce, SC (James Bowers) - The city of Cayce flipped the traditional roles of Christmas carolers Friday evening, giving community members a chance to go to the music rather than have it come to their door at its fifth annual “Caroling Along the Riverwalk” event. Five performers, ranging from solo vocalist and ukulele player Sid Jackson to the Gantt Street Baptist Church Pickers treated event-goers to some festive sounds of the season.

Acts were stationed at various points along the Cayce Riverwalk pathway, a popular recreational area that parallels the Congaree River. As participants strolled and enjoyed the sights, the beautiful music would suddenly envelope them, making the whole evening more enjoyable. It was a treat for the eyes and the ears all rolled into one.

Refreshments were provided for guests and the issue of limited on-site parking was rectified by Columbia radio fixture Captain Telegram, who utilized his “trolley” (a Chevrolet bus) to take guests to the event from the parking lot of Brookland-Cayce High School. That, in itself, was a treat for some of the younger guests.

According to Dave Capps of the Cayce Events Committee, this is the sixth season for this event. “People really enjoy it," Capps said. “This is the closest thing to “It’s a wonderful life” that you’ll get in Cayce,"

The caroling event is not the only fun happening that Cayce has in store for its residents.  The city will also host an event called the Nature Walk. Participants will be led by noted naturalist Dr. Rudy Mancke down the scenic Timmerman Trail, home to some of the most exquisite plants and interesting animals in the city. “Caroling Along the Riverwalk” and the “Nature Walk” are two ways that Cayce utilizes its recreational facilities to hold fun events for the community year-round.
