Lexington, SC – Chief Terrence Green would like to notify the public of a series of auto break-in and tampering cases in the Barr Lake and Vinter’s Wood neighborhoods and ask residents throughout the Town of Lexington to safeguard their property by removing items of value along with making sure car doors are locked each night.
During one of the auto break-ins at the Barr Lake neighborhood, a law enforcement vehicle was accessed where a ballistic vest along with two helmets were stolen. The value of the items taken was over $1,800. Other items stolen over the last two weeks during auto break-ins from these neighborhoods have included a handgun, tablet, laptop, clothing, and a wallet.
Multiple male subjects have been recorded on several neighborhood surveillance video systems along with several unknown make or model vehicles believed to be involved as well. The subjects involved typically have their face covered and are wearing gloves during these incidents.
Chief Terrence Green said, “With the holiday season comes opportunities for criminals to take advantage of those who leave Christmas gifts, weapons, keys, cash, and electronics in their vehicle to take. Seldom are car windows broken without something of value in view and more times than not, vehicles are left unlocked making it that much easier for crime to happen.”
