First responders work to free people trapped in twisted wreckage near Pine Grove Monday night
Pine Grove, SC (Paul Kirby) Firefighters and EMS personnel had to extricate at least one person from the twisted wreckage of a vehicle after an accident early Monday night in the Pine Grove area. The collision was reported to be in the 500 block of Old Barnwell near Savannah Wood Circle. This is on the Springdale side of the Pine Grove fire station.
Firefighters from Pine Grove were quickly on the scene. They requested additional assistance from the larger crew out of Oak Grove, more manpower from South Congaree, and the area’s battalion chief, a field level supervisor. There were also a number of rescuers there from Lexington County EMS that attended to the injured while the firefighters performed their extrication operations. There were also a number of law enforcement officers on the scene.
The roadway was blocked for some time as work took place. The crews used specialty rescue equipment to gain access to the injured patients. The extent of their injuries has not been released due to privacy laws.
The cause of the wreck is being investigated by the SC Highway Patrol.
