Law enforcement officer investigating two burglaries of Dollar Trees in southern Lexington County
Lexington County, SC (Paul Kirby) Two Dollar Tree stores, one in Gaston and one in Cayce, were burglarized sometime after midnight, Wednesday morning. The store in Gaston is located off Mack Street, and the Cayce one is in Edenwood Plaza near Frink Street and Charleston Highway.
According to Major Stephen Watkins, spokesman for the Gaston Police Department, the suspects, who are at this point unidentified, broke in through the rear of the building last night and took an undisclosed amount of money. He didn’t say exactly how the burglars entered the building or where in the store the money was taken from.
Chief Byron Snellgrove of the Cayce Department of Public Safety confirmed that the Cayce store was entered sometime last night as well. Snellgrove said that his department has had investigators on the scene today and are working leads, but the burglaries do seem very similar. Neither department could confirm that the same suspects committed both of these crimes at this time.
The stores have been closed while investigators gather evidence. It is not clear when exactly they will reopen. Both departments have asked that anyone who might have seen something in either area that appeared out of the ordinary, call CRIME STOPPERS at 1-888-CRIME SC. You can reach the Gaston PD at (803) 785-2521 or the Cayce DPS at (803) 794-0456.
We will continue to update his story as more information becomes available.
