Brush fire burns shed, threatens mobile homes near Gilbert

Gilbert, SC (Paul Kirby) A brush fire spread to a shed that burned and eventually, threatened two mobile homes west of Gilbert Friday afternoon. The fire was reported in the 100 block of Bethlehem Circle between I-20 and Leesville near Pond Branch Road.

The first calls reporting the fire came in at about 2:45 p.m. The first arriving fire officer reported that the fire had grown to approximately 1 ½ acres and was burning a shed. He also said that two mobile homes were being threatened by the blaze. A second alarm was struck for extra water tankers to supply the engines and brush trucks fighting the fire.

The fire was marked under control at about 3:12 p.m. Firefighters stayed on the scene for some time after that ensuring that all of the hot-spots were out, and the fire couldn’t spread any further. The cause of the fire hasn’t been released by the fire service.
