Pelion man who was severely burned by using lighter near oxygen has passed

February 2, 2018

Pelion, SC (Paul Kirby) -   A Pelion area man who was burned just after Christmas of 2017 after he used a lighter around oxygen and the flame quickly intensified, has passed away. The man’s face was badly burned in the accident which occurred on Hartley Quarter Road between the Pelion and the Fairview communities. A Life Net helicopter responded to transport the patient straight to the Joseph M. Still Burn Center in Augusta, Georgia, but he recently succumbed to his injuries. Donald Hipp, better known as “Hippy” to his family and friends, died Thursday morning after battling for his life for more than a month.

Family and friends say that he was a caring man that was always quick with a smile, as illustrated by the attached picture of him. He was also a Carolina fan. His health had been failing prior to the accident, but he battled strongly after he was burned. Eventually, his body just couldn’t fight anymore. His next of kin is making his final arrangements now.
