Road win gives Jackets 3rd Place finish in 5-5A, 16-7 overall record
Irmo, SC (James Bowers) - The Irmo Yellow Jackets used some impressive defense to down their arch-rival Dutch Fork Silver Foxes by a 49-33 count on Friday night in both teams’ regular season finale. The win clinches the third-place spot in the Region 5-5A race for Irmo.
The Jackets and Foxes matched each other blow for blow in the first quarter of a physical, fast-paced contest. The opening quarter ended with Irmo in the lead 14-10. In the second quarter, Irmo began to take control, denying Dutch Fork at the rim with regularity and taking advantage of Silver Fox errors. After the intermission, Irmo again controlled things, keeping Dutch Fork at bay with effective shooting and defensive play.
Once the game entered the 4th Quarter, Tim Whipple and his Yellow Jackets began putting it out of reach for the host team, allowing the Foxes only 10 points during the final period while the shooting of Hasaun Rivers and Winston Hill helped pad the Irmo lead. When the final gun sounded, Irmo had taken a 49-33 victory over the Foxes in front of a sizable, vocal crowd at Dutch Fork High School’s gymnasium.
Leading scorers for Irmo were Winston Hill, who added 14 Jacket points, Boston Rivers, who scored 10, and Hasaun Rivers, who had 9 points for Irmo. Leaders for Bret Jones’ Silver Foxes were Kerry Eaddy, who banged out 11 for the Silver Foxes, Tyrik McDaniel who scored 7, and Jordan Williams, who chipped in with five points.
The win gives Irmo a 7-5 record in region play this season, good for third in the league behind Spring Valley. The Jackets are looking forward to learning their opponent for the upcoming state playoffs soon.
Dutch Fork falls to 6-6 with the loss, with an 11-13 overall record. Their postseason fate is not known at this time.
