Gaston SC (Paul Kirby) A fatal traffic collision has occurred in Lexington County. The accident was reported sometime around 3 a.m. Sunday morning and was reported on the SCDPS website as I-26 at the 119-mile marker. At about 7:00 a.m., the fire service was just leaving the scene in the hands of staff from the Lexington County Coroner’s Office and troopers from the SCHP.
Details are limited at this time, but it is known that firefighters were set up at the scene on Rolling Meadows Lane in the mobile home park that sits parallel to the interstate. This is off US Hwy.176 just before the interstate bridge. Parts of that lane sit right at the fence that separates I-26 from the park. This is very close to the Calhoun County line.
Lexington County Fire Service Battalion Two was there as was E-12 out of Gaston and Ladder 5 from South Congaree. Lexington County EMS also had personnel and equipment on the scene earlier.
Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher’s staff will determine the exact means of death and will notify the victim’s family before releasing any identities. We will report the name of the deceased after she has made those notifications. The cause of the accident will come from the SC Highway Patrol who’s in charge of the investigation into the cause of the accident.
