Gaston Police Department arrest man on multiple charges after car chase Tuesday morning

Gaston, SC (Paul Kirby) The Gaston Police Department has arrested a man on multiple charges after he led officers on a high-speed chase that ended with him in custody Tuesday morning. The suspect initiated the pursuit at the intersection of Blackville and Meadowfield Roads after Gaston Police Chief Shawn Mohundro attempted to pull over a car that was stolen out of Richland County.

According to Major Stephen Watkins, spokesman for the Gaston Police Department, the pursuit ended on Player Drive where the man jumped from the vehicle and attempted to flee on foot. Chief Mohundra quickly caught the suspect and placed him under arrest. He was backed up by Watkins who was driving the secondary cruiser during the chase.

Major Watkins said that they are charging Tyrik Wilson with driving under suspension, failure to stop for blue lights, reckless driving, possession of a stolen vehicle with a value greater than $2,000, and possession of Methamphetamine. Wilson has been booked into the detention center where he is awaiting a bond hearing.
