Teen arrested in weekend shooting of Gray's Collegiate athlete
Columbia, SC (Paul Kirby) A 16-year-old teen has been arrested and is being charged in the shooting death of a student of Lexington County’s Gray’s Collegiate Academy. Desmond Marquise Crome was charged with murder, attempted murder, attempted armed robbery, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime.
Over the weekend, Tiquan Taylor, 14, of Irmo, a student at Gray’s Collegiate near West Columbia, was shot in the chest in what authorities described as a robbery. They said that the two teens had met about the sale of a game console when the shooting happened. This took place in an unincorporated area of Richland County.
The student body of Gray’s, a SC Charter School located off Leaphart Road near I-20, was said to be in absolute shock Monday upon learning of Taylor’s death. He was a popular student who played on both the basketball and football teams at the junior-varsity levels. Funeral arrangements for Taylor haven’t yet been publicized.
