Town of Chapin ratifies job description for Director of Planning and Zoning
Chapin, SC (Paul Kirby) The town of Chapin’s mayor and council agreed last night on a job description for the hiring of a new Director of Zoning and Planning. This job was intended to fill the hole left by the resignation of former employee Chris Clauson who left at the end of 2017 to accept a job with Fairfield County.
In the past administration, Clauson focused heavily on zoning and did some planning as he could. This job is heavy on the planning function. This is a plus for a town that is growing at the speed at which Chapin is. Town officials have said they want the person hired in that position to work closely with the town’s very capable planning commission and be more involved in what Lexington County’s Planning Commission is doing as well.
With this hire, the town is getting closer to being staffed much like they were when Skip Wilson was mayor. A few weeks ago, they contracted with Nicholle Burroughs to do parts of the job that Karen Owens did before she resigned. Burroughs currently handles special event planning and communications for the town through a contract with her company. She is not currently handling the economic development duties as Owens was.
The town plans to advertise the job on the town’s website as well as the SC Municipal Association’s page where qualified applicants search for open positions. It should be posted soon.
