White Knoll-Red Bank, SC (Paul Kirby) – Earlier this week, a White Knoll High School 10th grade student was charged with being a minor in possession of a handgun after a .22 caliber pistol was discovered at his home. During the sheriff’s departments investigation into that, the young man admitted to investigators that he had taken the gun to White Knoll High School at some point.
After the school district was advised of this situation, the parents of White Knoll students were notified via a letter from the school’s principal about what had transpired. In that letter to parents, Mr. Daughtry told parents that the student admitted to the investigators that he never planned to use the gun at the school. He also said that he had never threatened anyone at the school with the gun. The investigators advised the boy’s parents to contact the school to set up a meeting with the school’s resource officer to discuss the incident. They have since done that.
In the letter to parents, Daughtry said that in accordance with district policies and procedures and state law, their administrators suspended the student while he waits for an expulsion hearing with the district’s hearing officer. They did not have to refer him to law enforcement because that’s where all this started.
In the letter he said that the student’s safety will always be the school’s number one priority. He also thanked parents for their support as they all work together to keep White Knoll High School safe.
