Car ends up submerged but, occupants safe after taking the plunge on Misty Lane Sunday night
Lake Murray, SC (Paul Kirby) – A number of EMS and fire service units were dispatched Sunday night to a submerged car off Misty Lane near Shull Island on Lake Murray. Special units from the fire service equipped with a boat, rescue swimmers, and other gear needed to recover someone from the water were sent as was an ambulance and a supervisor from EMS.
The call came in at approximately 8:00 p.m. and the first fire service personnel who arrived reported that they did have a vehicle that had run into the water and sunk. All occupants were reported out of the vehicle as soon as they did their primary investigation. As soon as it was confirmed everyone was safe, much of the specialized response units were released to return to their quarters. The EMS crews were changed to non-emergent status, but they proceeded to the scene to make sure that everyone was okay.
What caused the car to swerve from the road and run into the water where it did has not been released by the SCHP. They are in charge of the investigation, but it may be several days before they are ready to release their findings. There is one area near that point where a very narrow grass strip and a few trees are all that separate the road from the waters of the lake on one side and a large pond on the other.
