Unofficial results show Wooten takes SC House 69 special election

Lexington, SC (Paul Kirby) – The Lexington County Election Commission has counted the votes in the runoff election for the special race for SC House District 69. Those results show that Lexington businessman Chris Wooten won by a narrow margin.

With 20 of 24 precincts counted at 8:30 p.m., Wooten had claimed 1,655 votes, while his opponent Anne Marie Green received 1,319. A total of 2,974 votes were cast. There are 29,410 registered voters that were eligible to vote in that district, meaning that just over 10% of the eligible voters chose who would represent them at the statehouse. Wooten will still need to make this all complete by winning in the actual election on May 1st. He's now unopposed in that.

Soon, the regular primary filing for the same seat will open and Wooten and whoever decides to run against him will have to do this all again. The winner of that primary will then need to run in November’s general election and win that to claim the seat.
