Pelion, SC (Paul Kirby) A doublewide mobile home was destroyed by fire Tuesday night around 9:10 p.m. in the 300 block of Cherry Blossom Road near Sharpes Hill and Pelion. This is not far from where Cherry Blossom and Clay Hill Roads intersect.
The first due fire crew informed their dispatch-center that the home was fully involved when they arrived on the scene. They made an attack on the fire from the exterior as more assistance and water tankers rushed to the scene from across southern Lexington County. The fire hydrant was some distance away making it necessary for the firefighters to tank their water in from SC Hwy. 6 using the special tanker trucks. Each of these requires a dedicated driver, and this robs manpower from the fire attack.
Eventually, the firefighters were able to muster enough manpower and water on the scene to bring the fire under control. The home, which had been ravaged by the fire prior to the arrival of the first trucks and personnel, lay in ruins after he flames were put out. Firefighters stayed on the scene until well into the night putting out the remaining hot spots to ensure that the fire didn’t rekindle.
Firefighters were assisted on the scene by personnel from Lexington County EMS and the sheriff’s department. The cause of the fire has not been released. Lexington County has not said if anyone was living in the home and if so, how many were displaced.
