Irmo, SC (Paul Kirby) – Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher has now released the names of the young people who were killed in a car crash while fleeing from Irmo police officers last night. Three died after the driver chose to initiate a pursuit rather than stop when an officer got behind the stolen car they were in. Eventually, that driver lost control of the Pontiac G6 on Piney Grove Road and slammed it into a tree at a high rate of speed. One died on the scene, one died on arrival at the hospital and another was pronounced dead a short while after arriving at another medical facility.
Fisher said in her release that Travis Lamount Green, Jr., 15; Travion D’Monte Green, 13; and Reshad Daloamir Davis, 15 are all dead. The two Greens are brothers. All died due to multiple traumatic injuries sustained in the accident, according to Mrs. Fisher. The other teens in the car are 18, 17, and a 14 years old respectively. They were all hospitalized after the wreck.
Firefighters had to cut at least one of the victims from the carnage that was the car. An officer of the Irmo Fire District said the car literally was wrapped around the tree and it appeared as if it might have hit right on the driver’s door. Others said Thursday that it was a miracle that anyone escaped from the twisted wreckage alive at all.
Beside the fact that the car fled from the officers at a high rate of speed, someone in the car also was armed with a pistol. That is illegal since the oldest in the car was 18 years old. The Irmo PD hasn’t said if any of the injured have explained why they had the gun or what they planned to do with it. The SCHP is investigating the crash as is standard procedure any time a police officer is involved in a pursuit that ends in a crash and fatality.
