Springdale PD makes arrest in shooting and the person arrested is also the victim

Springdale, SC (Paul Kirby) Investigators with the Springdale PD have arrested a man after a shooting that took place early Wednesday morning. The twist is that the person arrested is also the victim. According to Springdale Police Chief Kevin Cornett, Fredrick Smith was “working” on his pistol when it went off and he shot himself. Because Smith had been previously convicted of a felony, he has now been charged with unlawful possession of a pistol and felon in possession of a firearm. He was not seriously injured and has been booked into the Lexington County Detention Center.

Not to be outdone, Cornett said that Smith’s sister is also being charged with several crimes. She had marijuana in her possession and also pipes and other drug paraphernalia. Cornett says that the investigation is ongoing and more charges may be filed in the future. "We have no place for criminals in Springdale," Chief Cornett said. "This is a quiet, safe, family community and we're going to keep it that way."
