Fire destroys family home on Sunday evening near The Ridge and Hollow Creek
Leesville, SC (Paul Kirby) A house was completely destroyed by fire on Sunday evening at 1239 Ray Price Road near The Ridge area of Lexington County. This is an area that sits between the towns of Batesburg-Leesville and Gilbert, and the communities of Cedar Grove and Hollow Creek. The first calls regarding the home being on fire were received by the county’s 911 center at 8:48 p.m.
First arriving firefighter found the home was heavily involved in fire. By the time they made their attack, a great deal of the home had already been damaged or destroyed by the fire. Before the blaze was deemed under control by the battalion chief in charge, an estimated $56,000 in damage had been done to the home. According to Harrison Cahill, a spokesman for Lexington County, the fire service had deemed the home a total loss. Cahill said that a family of four, two adults and two children, had been displaced by the fire. The American Red Cross was available if they needed their assistance.
In total, Lexington County had 16 pieces of fire apparatus committed to the fire. Many were water tankers needed to haul water to the scene because of a lack of fire hydrants.. They also had a total of 22 personnel on scene and received invaluable assistance from the career and volunteer firefighters from the Batesburg Leesville Fire Department.
Cahill said that the cause of the fire was still under investigation.
