Cayce DPS awarded grant to further fund Traffic Division

Cayce, SC (Gail Fallaw) - The Cayce Department of Public Safety was recently awarded a grant administered by the South Carolina Department of Public Safety (SCDPS) Office of Highway Safety and Justice Program. The grant funds up to three years of salaries and equipment for three full-time officers in the city of Cayce's Traffic Division. These officers are charged with improving the safety of motorists and pedestrians by enforcing traffic laws. Their daily task will include patrolling for unlawful acts such as DUI, speeding, and disregarding signals on Cayce’s roadways. All of these are proven to increase traffic accidents and injuries that area received as a result of them.

The original Traffic Division was established in November of 2017. Chief Byron Snellgrove said that since that time, Cayce has experienced a 20% decrease in the number of accidents in their jurisdiction. The Cayce DPS was also recently presented with an award for their successful efforts in traffic safety and DUI enforcement from the South Carolina 11th Circuit Law Enforcement Network.
