South Congaree, SC (Paul Kirby) – South Congaree police officers, assisted by investigators and crime scene technicians from the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department, are investigating a shooting that occurred Thursday that resulted in the death of a man. The incident happened near Pine Street and Dolphin Court just after midnight on Thursday morning.
According to South Congaree Police Chief Josh Shumpert, there was a domestic incident that resulted in one of the individuals involved shooting the other. The person who was shot died as a result of the wounds received during the incident. Shumpert said that his department, along with the sheriff’s department, have been investigating the situation surrounding the incident since it occurred. At this point in the investigation, he is consulting with prosecutors from the 11th Circuit Solicitor’s Office to determine what or if any charges will be filed as a result of the incident. Shumpert has promised to update the community once that decision is made.
Chief Shumpert made it clear that there was no danger to the community from this incident. He also said that he wanted to thank the sheriff’s department and the Lexington County Coroner’s office for their help in the matter. The name of the victim who died would normally be released by the coroner at some point in the future.
