Pine Ridge, SC - The Town of Pine Ridge is pleased to announce that Nicholas (Nick) Scott has been selected as the Town’s new Police Chief. The incoming Police Chief will be responsible for a host of different tasks to include continuing the community’s policing services, growing successful public safety outreach programs as well as building trust and legitimacy.
Nicholas Scott joins Pine Ridge after serving the City of Columbia Police Department for 10 years. A native of the Columbia area, Chief Scott joined the Columbia Police Department in 2008 and served most recently as Sergeant in the Criminal Investigations Division. Nicholas was responsible for overseeing Columbia’s Crime Scene Unit. While with Columbia, Nicholas gained experience in several specialized areas, namely; patrol, community response teams, special operations and investigations.
Chief Scott earned his Bachelors of Science Degree in Computer Science from Benedict College in 2006. While there, he served as the Student Government Association President and became an active member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Incorporated. He later received a Master of Science Degree in Public Safety with a specialization in Criminal Justice from Capella University in 2016. Chief Scott is an active member of several national, state and local organizations. Among them are: The International Association for Identification, Association of Certified Fraud Examiners, Association of Fraud Specialists, Fraternal Order of Police and the South Carolina Crisis Negotiators Association. In 2017, he was elected as a board member for the South Carolina Law Enforcement Officers’ Association. He has also published several public safety articles in reputable law enforcement journals.
When notified of his appointment, Chief Scott stated he was honored to accept this position and expressed that it was with much humility, integrity and respect. He is eager to serve the citizens of the Town of Pine Ridge and looks forward to working with a team of talented professionals within the Pine Ridge Police Department who share a commitment to public service and excellence. His first priority will be meeting the staff and learning about the department’s operations as well as its challenges. Nicholas has a passion for community policing, transparency in law enforcement, and the strengthening of community relations though community engagement and interaction.
Nicholas has been married for 5 years. He and his wife have one son and three beautiful daughters. Nicholas’ hobbies include spending time with his family, fitness, traveling and vacationing.
