SCHP says passenger in yesterday evening’s North Lake Drive wreck has died; coroner identifies victi
Lexington, SC (Paul Kirby) – The female passenger of the pickup truck that was involved in a vehicle accident on North Lake Drive at Pilgrim Church Road Sunday evening has died. This is according to Lance Corporal David Jones of the SCHP. Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher has now said that Jessica H. Kirby, 36, of Lexington was pronounced dead at an area hospital a short time after the collision.
The details leading up to the accident are still being sorted out by police officers at this time. The pickup truck that overturned was reported to have been driving erratically just prior to the accident. One matching its description was being sought by officers from Lexington’s Police Department after its occupants were reported to have been involved in some type of altercation at a local bar. The police have not said if it was verbal, physical, or both. Before officers could locate the truck and stop it, the crash occurred.
According to Lance Corporal Judd Jones of the SCHP, 43-year-old Scotty Medlin was driving the pickup at the time of the crash. Jones said that Medlin lost control of the truck, went into an oncoming lane and then struck another vehicle. The truck he was driving then overturned, ejecting Kirby, the female passenger, who was not wearing a seatbelt. Parts of the truck came off and struck a third vehicle during the collision. Traffic was backed up for miles as officers and first responders worked the wreck. The SCHP has said that there may be charges pending against the driver of the truck soon.
