Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher releases name of auto collision victim in Gaston

May 2, 2018

Gaston, SC (Paul Kirby) Wednesday, Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher has identified the decedent involved in a motor vehicle collision that occurred in the 300 block of South Main Street in Gaston Tuesday morning at approximately 8:00 a.m. According to Fisher, Michael Anthony Worrell, 62, of Swansea died at the scene of the wreck.

According to investigators with the SCHP, Worrell was traveling on Hwy 321 toward Swansea when for some unknown reason, his vehicle crossed the center line and collided head-on with an oncoming vehicle. Worrell, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was pronounced dead on scene; however, an autopsy concluded that his death was the result of natural causes which is apparently the reason that he lost control of his vehicle. The driver of the other vehicle was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
