Serious accident traps occupant in car at Old Lexington and Clark Street in Chapin

May 5, 2018

Chapin, SC (Paul Kirby) – A car collision at Clark Street and Old Lexington Highway in the town of Chapin trapped at least one patient in the twisted wreckage of a vehicle for a short period just before 7 p.m. on Friday evening. Firefighters were on the scene quickly and asked for additional equipment after the officer on the ladder out of the Chapin area’s main station realized that they would need to use heavy extrication tools to free the person pinned in the vehicle.

Witnesses told The Ledger that it appeared as if one vehicle t-boned another right in the door of the area where the people would sit. “A lot of people stopped and tried to help but they couldn’t do much but provide first aid and comfort until the fire department arrived,” he said. The witness said that once the first firetruck pulled up, the crew began moving quickly to get the door open to free the patient that was trapped. That person was then handed over to EMS. The extent of those injuries hasn’t been revealed.

Chapin Police Officer were on the scene of the accident trying to help where they could and to keep the traffic flowing. The dinner crowd was moving in and out of town and those people were caught in the traffic tie-up, but officers were doing their best to get them moving as quickly as safely possible. The Chapin Police Department hasn’t released the cause of the accident or if any charges are being filed.
