Car crashes while fleeing Gaston Police
Gaston, SC (Paul Kirby) – A vehicle that sped away from a traffic stop on Hwy. 321 south in Gaston Friday evening went through a traffic light and hit another vehicle before coming to a stop where the driver was then arrested on a litany of charges. No one was seriously hurt and everyone refused treatment from EMS after the short chase and crash.
According to Major Stephen Watkins, spokesman for the Gaston PD, he and another officer were on routine patrol when they attempted to stop a vehicle on Hwy 321 after running the car’s plates and finding that they had been reported stolen in Calhoun County. Watkins said that when they initiated the stop, the driver pulled over and allowed officers to walk up to the vehicle. Before they could begin to interact with the driver, she sped away, initiating the pursuit. The chase only went a short distance before the driver of the car disregarded the traffic light at the intersection of Woodtrail and Hwy. 321 where the fleeing car was struck by someone else who had the right-of-way. EMS and fire units were immediately dispatched to the scene by Lexington County’s 911 center.
According to Major Watkins, the driver of the car, Alishia Golson was taken into custody for possession of stolen property, driving under suspension 4th offense, failing to stop for blue lights, and reckless driving.
