Pedestrian killed while walking in the road near Swansea

Swansea, SC (Paul Kirby) A Cayce woman was killed Saturday night as she walked along a rural road between Swansea and Sharpes Hill in southwestern Lexington County. The accident happened at about 9:20 p.m. on Sharon Church.

 

Sunday afternoon, Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher identified the Gale R. Mack, 57, of Cayce as the pedestrian who died. Fisher said that Mack was struck as she walked in the roadway.  An autopsy was performed on Sunday according to Fisher. It showed that Mack sustained serious head injuries and she died at the scene as a result of those injuries.  Fisher said that the driver of the vehicle immediately stopped to render aid and was not injured in the accident. 

 

The South Carolina Highway Patrol continues to investigate the accident.
