Swansea, SC (Paul Kirby) – A patient was flown from the Swansea area Saturday after being severely injured in a tractor accident. According to Harrison Cahill, spokesman for Lexington County, the person was involved in the accident which occurred in the 300 block of Lairds Hill near Swansea Rd. The man had an injured leg, and after being assessed by EMS, it was decided that he would be best served by air transport. Cahill said that a Lifenet helicopter launched and landed at The Swansea Freshman Academy on I.W. Hutto Rd. The man was transported there by EMS with the assistance of firefighters, and the man was transferred to the helicopter. The current condition of the man is not known at this time.
Lifenet helicopters are based in the Irmo area at a heliport located behind the IFD’s headquarters station. They are available at the request of EMS and are able to transport to multiple hospitals like the trauma center at Palmetto Richland or the burn center in Augusta depending on the patient’s injuries.
