St. Andrews, SC (Paul Kirby) – Another person has been killed in a vehicle accident Sunday morning in Lexington County. According to the Lexington County Coroner, Sabrina Maria Nelums, 44, of Columbia, as well as another person, was hit by a pickup truck while walking along Jamil Road near Irmo about 1:20 a.m. Sunday. Nelums was pronounced dead at the scene due to, what the coroner says, was “obvious traumatic injuries sustained in the collision.”
The South Carolina Highway Patrol says the driver of a 2000 Ford Pickup truck was traveling northbound on Jamil Road when the vehicle struck two people that were in the roadway.Coroner Fisher said the driver of the truck, who was not injured, stopped immediately and provided aid to the two victims. While Nelums died at the scene, the second person was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries from being hit by the truck’s mirror.
Law enforcement officials say that neither Nelums nor the other person who was walking was wearing any type of reflective material that would allow them to have been seen by the driver of the truck. The SC Highway Patrol is still investigating the crash.
