Swansea man arrested for West Columbia bank robbery

West Columbia, SC (Paul Kirby) - A Swansea man has been taken into custody in a Wednesday morning bank robbery that happened in the West Columbia area. According to Captain Adam Myrick of the LCSD, Timithy McCants, 58, walked into the bank, demanded money by presenting a note to a teller at the First Citizens branch on Sunset Boulevard and West Hospital Drive, and then fled according to detectives. He is charged with robbery and entering a bank with intent to steal, according to arrest warrants.

According to the sheriff’s department, investigators were able to gather enough information from the bank’s employees, their camera system, and other leads that allowed them to track McCants down. They were able to recover evidence including the clothes he wore from the robbery along with cash when they took him into custody. He has since been booked into the Lexington County Detention Center.

Captain Adam Myrick, a spokesman for the sheriff’s department, said that they were assisted by the FBI and the Lexington Medical Center Department of Public Safety in their investigation.
