Students turn donated truck into rolling work of art

June 7, 2018

LEXINGTON, S.C. — To spread the word about Keep the Midlands Beautiful, students at Lake Murray Elementary School created a rolling work of art.

Students turned a donated pickup truck into a colorful, anti-litter message on wheels to support Keep the Midlands Beautiful, a local organization dedicated to making the Midlands an attractive place to live through litter cleanup and recycling events.

Lexington County Councilman Darrell Hudson, grandfather to LMES students Caden and Mia Clark, donated the truck to Keep the Midlands Beautiful, inviting fifth-graders to paint it. Under the direction of LMES Art Teacher Elizabeth S. Clonts, LMES students turned the blank canvas of the truck body into an eye-catching reminder of what a litter-free community can look like.

To ensure the longevity and integrity of the artwork, students used automotive brush-on paint for their design. Keep the Midlands Beautiful volunteers will use the truck during litter cleanup events.
