Portion of Knox Abbott Drive closed Monday due to tractor-trailer truck wreck

June 19, 2018

Cayce, SC (Paul Kirby) A portion of Knox Abbott Drive was closed for a short while Monday evening as officers dealt with an accident that involved a tractor trailer truck and a small car. This happened in the Cayce – West Columbia area of the county sometime around 7:00 p.m. DPS officials and fire and rescue units rushed to the scene of the accident and arrived within moments of the crash.

The truck that was hauling scraps of metal tipped over in a curve and landed on the car smashing much of its trunk and a part of the rear seat area on the passenger side. Most of the scraps stayed in the truck and a heavy wrecker was quickly brought in from a local tow company to lift it back onto its wheels. Then, the car was able to be removed, and the road was completely reopened. The car was heavily damaged in the incident and no agency has said if anyone was seriously hurt in the incident.
