Registration for annual Lake Murray Country July 4th boat parade being accepted now
Lake Murray, SC (Paul Kirby) – Lake Murray's 30th Annual 4th of July celebration is scheduled for Saturday, June 30th. It will begin with the annual boat parade at noon and end with a spectacular firework show at dark. Boat Parade participants must register their boat to join the parade and decorate their boats according to this year's theme "Cheers to 30 Years."
Boats will meet at Bombing Range Island at 12 pm (noon) and the parade will then head toward the Lake Murray Dam for judging. The parade is viewable from the SCE&G park sites at the Dam, the walking path on the Lake Murray Dam, and by boat between its start point and the dam. Winners will be announced shortly after the parade and the judges have said in the past the more creative, colorful, and interactive a boat is, the better their chance to win awards are.
At dusk, fireworks will launch from two lake locations, Dreher Island and Spence Island. This year's show will last for 30 minutes in honor of the event's 30th year. As always, this is a huge crowd pleaser but please check your boat’s safety lights prior to going out on the lake for the nighttime show. Various law enforcement agencies will be actively patrolling the lake to ensure that boaters voluntarily comply with all safety regulations.
