Personal water craft burns near Hollow Creek, rider transported to hospital

July 2, 2018

Hollow Creek, SC (Paul Kirby) – A personal water craft caught fire and burned on Lake Murray Monday afternoon near the Lexington / Saluda County lines and Lakeshore Drive. The rider was slightly injured because of the incident. The fire service responded to the call but the PWC was apparently destroyed.

According to Captain Robert McCullough of the SC Department of Natural Resources, the rider of the jet-ski was transported by Lexington EMS for minor injuries. DNR had someone on the scene Monday afternoon overseeing the cleanup of a minor fuel spill that came from the burned craft. The jet-ski has since been recovered from the lake.

The Lexington County Sheriff’s Department also responded with one of their firefighting capable boats. The cause of the fire hasn’t been determined at this time.
