Raging house fire closes Fish Hatchery Rd. for hours Tuesday night in Pine Ridge
Pine Ridge, SC (Paul Kirby) A residential structure fire that was dispatched at approximately 9:45 p.m. Tuesday night near Fish Hatchery Road and Bramblewood Circle, closed Fish Hatchery in the 2400 block while fire hoses and equipment were in the road. The structure was fully involved when the first crews arrived and the battalion chief out of South Congaree reported a large column of black smoke in the sky while still enroute even though it was already very dark.
When the chief pulled up, there was some confusing as to exactly how to access the fire. The call had been dispatched off Bramblewood Circle but eventually had to be accessed from another direction. It only took a few minutes for that to be sorted out and the first truck to pull up and offload its crew and equipment that were geared up and ready to go. The firefighters immediately went to work making an attack on what was already an inferno from the exterior of the home. Supply lines were pulled in from a hydrant off Fish Hatchery causing the road to be closed completely in the 2400 block just before 10:00 p.m. Pine Ridge PD’s Chief Nicholas Scott responded from home and another officer was on the scene. They took charge of getting vehicles turned around and detoured away from the closed section.
Eventually, the fire was put out and a tractor from the county’s Public Works Department was brought in to dig through the smoldering debris. This was done to ensure that the fire wouldn’t rekindle during the night and was completely out. Pine Ridge Police Chief Nicholas Scott said that the road was still closed after midnight and that Lexington County had a fire investigator enroute to the scene to help with a cause and origin investigation.
There has been no word released by officials on whether anyone was injured, if the home was occupied at the time of the fire, or exactly what started the fire. Determining the cause may be difficult because of the extent of the damages form the fire.
