Gaston, SC (Paul Kirby) – The death investigation that the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department launched on the Fourth of July on Ball Park Road in Gaston is now being classified as a shooting investigation. This was released by the sheriff’s department Thursday evening. Often, a change like this comes as a result of an autopsy report when there are initial question about how someone may have been shot.
They now say that they are investigating the fatal shooting of 34-year-old Donald Bernard Brown. This all occurred in the 200 block of Ball Park Road in Gaston. According to the LCSD, deputies responded to a reported shooting just after 9 a.m. on Wednesday. Once there, they found a deceased individual inside a home. The man was later identified by Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher.
Investigators say that they are not searching for any suspects and no charges have been filed at this point. This usually indicates that they are aware of the circumstances surrounding the shooting and who was involved. It also may indicate that they are consulting with the solicitor’s office about what happened in order to help them decide if this was a homicide, manslaughter, or even possibly self-defense. No one should read to much into this. If there were an immediate danger to the public, or for your own family’s safety, that information would be released by the sheriff’s office quickly.
