Swansea, SC (Paul Kirby) – A mobile home was destroyed by fire near Swansea and Gaston Sunday evening. The call regarding smoke and flames coming from the home near 1088 Fallow Road near Happy Town Road came in at about 6:00 p.m. When the first firefighters arrived on the scene, they found that there was smoke and flames coming from inside the home and through the windows on several sides.
More firefighters and equipment quickly arrived on the scene from Lexington County and a water supply was established using tanker trucks to carry water from a supply point some distance away. Firefighters made their attack and were quickly able to push the fire back and eventually knock it down to a degree where they could bring it under control. Battalion #2 out of South Congaree arrived on scene and command was transferred to him. He oversaw the remainder of the fire attack and the stage where the firefighters search extensively for hot spots and salvage any belongings or contents that weren’t already ruined by the fire. It took some time to declare the fire was completely out.
Lexington County hasn’t said if anyone was injured as a result of the fire. They also haven’t released any determination on what started the fire or established an exact dollar figure for the home and contents loss. Firefighters and equipment from the Swansea station returned to the home later Sunday night to ensure it hadn’t rekindled.
