Fire burns mobile home on Pond Branch Road early Monday morning
Boiling Springs, SC (Paul Kirby) - A fire burned a double-wide mobile home early Monday morning in the 300 block of Pond Branch Road in the Boiling Springs community. This is located between Tony’s RVs and Keisler’s Crossroads. The call was received between 2 and 3 a.m. When firefighters arrived on the scene, they found fire and smoke coming from the home.
Although water tanker trucks were dispatched on the first response, some of those were released early on because of the water-lines and fire hydrants that run up Pond Branch Road. One of the first fire engines to arrive laid a large diameter supply hose from the hydrant providing the firefighters with all the water they needed to supply the firefight. Even though there was equipment on scene from as far away as Lexington, trucks from some of the more rural areas like Sharpe’s Hill and Fairview were quickly able to return to their stations so that large portions of the county wouldn’t be left unprotected.
Firefighters searched the home for occupants and confirmed with the people who had escaped the residence that no one was trapped inside. The battalion chief in charge did request the assistance of the American Red Cross’s Disaster Response personnel because of the loss of a place to live and the belongings of the home’s inhabitants. The American Red Cross can provide temporary lodging as well as limited funds to replace some essential items lost in the fire.
The fire was called under control around 4:30 a.m. and out completely out by approximately 5:00 a.m. The last of the fire service equipment left the scene around that time. Lexington County EMS had a unit on stand-by during the fire, but no injuries of any county personnel were reported. The fire service hasn’t released the cause of the fire, the estimated amount of loss due to the fire, or confirmed if anyone who lived in the home may have been injured.
