Boiling Springs, SC (Paul Kirby) – A fire on Longview Street consumed a 20’ x 20’ wooden shed and approximately one acre of land before it could be brought under control Thursday afternoon. The fire, which was dispatched at 3:15 p.m., required Lexington County fire resources to team up with a tractor plow unit from the SC Forestry Commission to get it under control. They eventually plowed a fire break all the way around the fire so that it is no longer moving, but firefighters were still working to wet the hot spots after 5:00 p.m.
The residents of Longview Street are no stranger to brush fires. Over the past several years, there have been a number of fires on both sides of the street that runs between Founders and Boiling Springs Roads. In several cases, these fires have destroyed structures. Most have been caused by people who have been burning outdoors in violation of the county’s burn ordinance. The cause of the fire Thursday has not been released.
