LEXINGTON, S.C.- All Lexington County schools will remain closed by order of Governor Henry McMaster until further notice. These closings apply to all schools, students and staff, and will remain in effect until rescinded by the governor.
The districts have canceled all daytime and evening meetings and events scheduled to take place at any Lexington County school, performing arts center, field or facility for as long as the order remains in place. This includes all district programs, athletic practices or events, adult education classes, school or district-related meetings, events, or extra-curricular activities scheduled.
District officials will send parents, staff and students more information as they receive it through their normal communications channels,.
Parents can also get updates and information about school openings and closings by following the districts' websites or on Facebook or Twitter, You can also follow local television stations, listening to local radio stations or going to media websites.
The closing are not because of an imminent threat to Lexington County. Many of the school buses assigned to Lexington County districts may be used to assist in the coastal evacuation. Schools are also used as primary shelter sites should they be needed. Currently, there are no shelters open in Lexington County according to the SCEMD and the County of Lexington's Twitter site.
