Third-graders receive ‘tree-mendous’ donation
LEXINGTON, S.C. — Midway Elementary received a gift that will bear fruit long after current students have graduated to middle school.
Mid-Carolina Electric Cooperative donated crepe myrtle seedlings to all third-grade students at MES as part of its TreeMendUs program, which promotes planting trees as one way to benefit the environment.
According to MCEC, “TreeMendUs is an MCEC-sponsored program held each September that replaces trees lost to right-of-way clearance efforts in our service area. Hundreds of trees are provided to third-grade students at schools in our service territory.”
MES says the program helps students understand the importance of replanting trees in the environment in order to offset the effects of rapid growth.
