Pelion, SC (Paul Kirby) – The Lexington County Sheriff’s Department is looking into exactly what happened that led up to a man in his late 20’s being critically shot Thursday night. This happened near the 200 block of Crystal Springs Drive around 9:00 p.m. The call to 911 that the man was injured brought law enforcement, EMS, and the fire service to a location that’s not far from Rutherford Road, Edmund Highway, and the popular landmark restaurant Shealy’s PDQ Too. Crystal Springs Drive is a heavily travelled, well-known, two-lane road that’s an unofficial breaking point for locals between what some consider the Lexington, Edmund, and Pelion areas.
Personnel from Lexington County EMS, assisted by firefighters from the county’s Edmund station, treated the young man on the scene and then quickly transported him to South Congaree. There, the EMS unit met a Lifenet helicopter that had landed at the equestrian arena on Oak Street. They handed the patient off to the helicopter’s crew and he was flown to the local trauma center in serious condition. It is believed that his gunshot wound may have been to his abdomen.
According to Captain Adam Myrick, a spokesman for the sheriff’s department, their department’s investigation started immediately. As of 10:30 p.m. Thursday night, they weren’t actively searching for any suspects. Their investigation is continuing at this point.
