Lexington, SC (Pail Kirby) – Lexington County emergency responders and multiple law enforcement agencies were on the scene of a fatal crash that completely blocked the west bound lanes of I-20 near the Mineral Springs Road overpass Sunday night. The call regarding the accident came in at approximately 8:00 p.m.
Firefighters had difficulty accessing the scene of the wreck because the traffic backed up quickly after it happened. Eventually the battalion chief from the fire service’s North Region arrived on the scene and declared that all of the interstate’s west lanes were going to be closed for the safety of the first responders and law enforcement officers as well as the people involved in the accident. He also requested a special light trailer respond from the Lexington Fire Station to help illuminate the scene of the accident.
Details regarding this accident are very limited at this time as state troopers and officers from the coroner’s office are just arriving. We will try and gain more information and update this story as soon as officials are ready to release more details.
