Cayce, SC (Paul Kirby) – A house was heavily damaged by fire early Monday morning in the 800 block of L Avenue near 10th Street in the City of Cayce. Fire equipment, firefighters, and public safety officers battled the fire for some time in the single-family home in the quiet neighborhood lined with small, quaint homes.
The fire was reported sometime before 2 a.m. Monday. Around 4 a.m., the crews were still on the scene beginning to disconnect their supply hose from the fire hydrant and picking up the last of their equipment so they could turn the home back over to its owner.
When the first Cayce units arrived on the scene, they realized they had a working fire that would require them to hook a supply hose to the fire hydrant to provide a sustained fire flow. The fire crews went to work pulling hoses and attacking the fire as more public safety officers arrived to assist in the firefight. Even though the crews were able to bring the fire under control; the extent of the damage made the home uninhabitable.
Cayce officials have not said if anyone was injured as a result of the fire, what exactly caused the blaze, or how much dollar loss they are estimating for this home. We will update this story as more information becomes available.
